What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to induce a state of relaxation, during which our unconscious mind is highly receptive to new or alternative perspectives and ideas. Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation, in fact, we pass through hypnosis on the way to sleep, so we recognise it as a very pleasant and comfortable state of being. With hypnosis we can create desired change in behaviour and encourage mental and physical well-being. This is achieved because the mind works on two levels the conscious and the unconscious, we make decisions, think and act with our conscious mind, the unconscious mind controls our habits and is home to our memory. In the relaxed state known as hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind and can change fixed habits and be more open to positive suggestions for change.
So in brief hypnosis is:
- A normal state
- A state of relaxation
- A state of increased awareness
- A state of increased focus and concentration
- A state where we have increased ability to access stored memory
- A state where we have increased suggestibility
- A level of consciousness where we can communicate easier with our sub-conscious mind
Hypnosis is absolutely not:
- The paranormal or the occult
- Mind control
- Brain washing
Forget what you see on the various types of ‘hypnosis shows’ by TV and stage hypnotists, where you are led to believe the subject is unable to control what they do and say, this could not be further from the truth! Hypnosis is a fully consensual state, you will remain in control throughout, no one can make you do things against your will or beliefs.
It is very important to emphasise that you are always in control, always in the driving seat.
The old myths and misconceptions about hypnosis have given way to proven, scientifically sound applications. Today hypnosis is used in many fields, including: medicine, dentistry, law enforcement and education.
You have Nothing To Fear And Everything To Gain.
The mind and body are so amazing in design, we all have the ability to heal ourselves as we focus on how we would like our lives to be, not on why we are in the situation we are in! We have all the answers within us sometimes we need a little guidance in accessing them.
